Clarification

Hello! Sorry to send another update so soon, but I think it's important to make sure this clarification gets to everyone.

I have not sold any of the products from this Kickstarter campaign, not through retail or directly, nor will I sell any until backers have their copies. I know that happens sometimes, but that has not happened here.

Let me say it again: Knot Dice Squared, the blue dice, and the reprint sets will go to backers first.

I apologize for any confusion growing out of my previous message. That message was referring to the original print run of Knot Dice which were manufactured after the first Knot Dice campaign several years ago.

Sold Out! and Schedule Update

Hello! I hope you are looking forward to a nice winter break. I have two pieces of news for you in the world of Knot Dice.

Sold Out

Knot Dice sold so well at PAX Unplugged (and a few days afterward), that they are all gone! There might still be a few copies at retailers, but the warehouse is empty (or at least my little section of it).

This is nearly perfect timing, since the new shipment will be arriving soon. However, the timing isn't quite perfect...

Schedule Update

The dice manufacturer ran a few weeks behind schedule delivering the final batch of dice, and the print manufacturer can't start the print run until all the dice have arrived, AND this is going to make the print run overlap Chinese New Year (when just about everything shuts down for 2-3 weeks).

This means that instead of February, we're probably looking at shipping the dice out in April.

I know this is disappointing to you - it's very disappointing to me as well. I thought that I had built enough room into the schedule to make sure to deliver on time, but it looks like I was still too optimistic for all of the moving parts involved in this process, and for the complex dice manufacturing requirements.

I hope that you can forgive my imperfect scheduling, and that you find the dice are well worth the wait when they do arrive.

Rules

I just got confirmation from the print manufacturing company that I did everything right with the rulebooks, so that part of the process is well underway now. If you'd like to take a sneak peek at the full rules, here they are as PDFs:

Manufacturing

And here are a few more photos of the manufacturing process:

On the left is a huge pile of the dice before painting or finishing. The blue and green all mixed together makes me feel a little crazy.

On the right is a bunch of the rounded green dice, already painted and going through a very slow finishing process, custom engineered for these dice.

PAX Unplugged

The weekend after Thanksgiving is PAX Unplugged in Philadelphia, and I'll be there with Knot Dice at the Black Oak Games booth (that's the name of the company). I'd love to say hello to anyone who wants to drop by, and you're welcome to check out the prototype set of Knot Dice Squared and perhaps try out a game or puzzle at our table.

Holiday Gifts

While Knot Dice Squared won't be available until after all of you wonderful backers have your sets (early next year), I do still have a very limited number of the original Knot Dice remaining.

Those will be available at PAX Unplugged, and also for purchase on the Knot Dice web site until they sell out.

If you're looking for a holiday gift, consider giving a copy to a friend or family member.

Still on Schedule for February

Hi everyone! I know I haven't sent out many updates lately, but no news is good news. I'm always happy to drop an update, though I have a tendency to hold them for more substantive news. Feel free to let me know if you'd like more frequent posts!

Schedule

Everything looks like we're still on schedule for February, as posted in the campaign. If anything happens to change that, I will let you know right away.

As of a few weeks ago, the dice manufacturer had finished molding all of the blue dice, and was moving on to painting and finishing those along with starting on the green.

Here's a photo of a ton of blue dice:

They've had some difficulty, especially with the squared dice, but that's pretty much par for the course with these dice, and it's why there are so few manufacturers willing to take on the job.

One of the manufacturing steps is polishing the dice, and when we did the first manufacturing run (for the original dice) they found out they couldn't use a normal dice polisher and had to switch over to a jewelry polisher. The dice come out looking great, but it does make the manufacturing process take longer than normal. I'll see if I can get a photo of that when they get around to that part of the process.

Fall Events

Meanwhile, I just took Knot Dice to the Takoma Park Street Festival yesterday to show them off, and ran into a couple of backers who got a chance to see the Knot Dice Squared prototypes.

I'll also be bringing them along to PAX Unplugged (November 30 - December 2 in Philadelphia) where I'll have a full booth for Knot Dice, under the company name Black Oak Games. So if you want to drop by, I'd love to say hello or play a quick game and show you the new dice prototypes!

Add-Ons

If you want to select or add some blue dice, time is running out. Here's a shot of the two colors out in today's sun (you can see more of the depth in the blue die than the green in this photo, but both have the same pearlized look as the original green, which really "shine" when you can hold them and move them around):

I know I'm biased, but I love how these look in the light and I often take them to picnics or other outdoor events.

I'll be locking in the surveys early next week, cutting off more orders for the blues, and charging the credit cards through BackerKit. After that point, you'll still be able to change your address, but if you want to add anything else you'll have to reach out to me directly.
