May Update: Some Dates!
almost 4 years ago – Tue, May 19, 2020 at 11:41:53 PM

Hello!

We should start shipping out to US backers in August, slightly later everywhere else.

(That was what you wanted to know, right? The rest is just details.)

Address Updates

I need you to update your address for where you will be in August. You can update your address in BackerKit if necessary. I will lock all addresses again by June 8.

Schedule Details

The dice are on the container ship MOL Celebration. You can follow along at that link.

Now, a few things to warn you about while following the ship...first, ships are generally not very timely. They are frequently held up by weather, and sometimes there are traffic delays at the Panama Canal (the ship will pass through there on the way to a warehouse in Florida).

Second, once the ship gets into port, there is time spent in customs, moving the containers off the ship, unpacking the containers, getting everything into trucks and then moving it to the warehouse.

Then, everything will be unpacked, the faulty dice removed from the game boxes and replaced with the good dice. (Meanwhile, the remaining replacement dice will be shipped out to fulfillment centers in Australia, Asia, the UK, and France for the rest of Europe.)

Then we can ship everything out to you.

We should be good for August, I just wanted you to be aware that if the ship arrives in port in June, it doesn't mean that the dice will be mailing out the next week.

You can tell there are a lot of moving parts, and this will have to fit into the schedules of the fulfillment partners. But they are all aware of my plans and I'm hoping this final phase goes off smoothly.

Thank you again for your patience, and I hope you are happy with your reward in the end.

And if you made it this far, here's a little photo of the blue and green together.

April Update (Manufacturing done, getting them on a ship)
almost 4 years ago – Thu, Apr 23, 2020 at 03:01:08 AM

Hello from my home to yours!

I hope you are staying safe and healthy during these crazy times. Amazingly, progress on Knot Dice Squared is continuing, and it's time to share an update (and some photos).

The dice are done - the full replacement manufacturing run is finished. I'm sending final payment now and arranging for freight shipping to have them sent to the US. I don't yet know how long the freight shipping will take, but I think that is continuing on a relatively normal schedule.

Once they arrive in the US, I will replace the old dice with new dice and then ship them all out to backers here, in Canada, and elsewhere. (Meanwhile, I will also ship cartons to Australia, the UK, and the EU, though I don't yet know what delays there may be for those locations due to the amount of activity my fulfillment partners can handle during Covid-19.)

Here are some photos for you of this production run:

Stay safe out there, and I'll be in touch again in a little while!

March Update (not much news)
about 4 years ago – Mon, Mar 02, 2020 at 10:47:15 PM

Hi!

We're into March, so I wanted to send an update, but I don't have much new to say. The manufacturer still hopes to be able to complete the dice in April for a summer delivery, though there is the possibility of a delay due to all of the factories being closed to prevent the spread of coronavirus. First and foremost is the importance of taking care of everyone's health.

Along those lines, in case anyone was curious, the World Health Organization (WHO) has answered this question for me: "Is it safe to receive a letter or a package from China?"

Per the WHO: "Yes, it is safe. People receiving packages from China are not at risk of contracting the new coronavirus. From previous analysis, we know coronaviruses do not survive long on objects, such as letters or packages." The WHO has posted a helpful reference page with the answer to this and other questions.

Stay healthy out there, and I'll be in touch again next month, or sooner if I have more details.

Moving Forward Again
over 4 years ago – Fri, Dec 13, 2019 at 01:52:02 AM

Hello!

I just received a short run of dice by the new manufacturer, and it looks like we finally have a winner.

I plan to send full sets of replacement dice to everyone who already received them. There is no need to separately request them. Please keep all of the print material and boxes, however, since I will only send new dice.

Pardon my handheld photographs, but I want to show you the difference between the first batch of dice and the new run. Old is on the left, new on the right:

You can see the difference in polish here, as well as the debris in the lines. These are both blue (!?) dice.
The color on the right, both in the die and the paint lines, is much better.
Here again is the lack of polish on the old dice (left), debris in the lines, and even some breakage.
It's hard to tell from this photo, but on many of the originals (left) it looks like white paint was used instead of silver.

I haven't been through all of the new dice yet, but based on a spot-check, these look great.

I'm now doing some calculating of costs, then I'll place the rest of the order with this company, and it should take them a few months to finish.

Thank you again for your patience and support while I get this sorted out, you have been amazing! I couldn't ask for a better community of backers than ours.
